"The more I played it, Kane was like, 'This guy, he's got something,' " 50 said. "Big was a big, humungous Big Daddy Kane fan. Once Big and Kane met, they had a lot of similarities. It's scary. The capacity of the jails on Rikers Island swelled and population control proved to be increasingly difficult, leading to protests by prisoners. In 1986, inmates finally lashed out at the conditions and rioted for four days.

Poole maintains there were clues that pointed to each man that should have been looked into further. "I've put away guys for life with less evidence [than I had on Perez and Mack]," Poole said.
